Developed by Dr J. Ermisch, the ERMISCH PROBE is used in acute bowel obstruction surgery for decompression of the small intestine and post-operative plication. The latest model of this patented probe is the culmination of 30 years of continuous experience in abdominal surgery. USC MEDICAL will start manufacturing this new probe under the latest conditions in 2024.
Due to the high risk of infection involved in the open process, closed decompression is always advised for eliminating the toxic contents of the gut in acute bowel obstruction surgery. In the case of advanced bowel obstructions, manual decompression and the use of longer balloon probes does not produce the desired results in terms of handling, low pumping capacity and balloon-associated trauma. These procedures have largely been abandoned in acute bowel obstruction surgery.
The new ERMISCH PROBE 2.0 (ileus decompression probe) is a modern surgical system which in experienced hands can reach the jejunum and ileum safely in 5–10 minutes, decompress the obstructed bowel without causing trauma and plicate the small intestine if necessary in order to prevent obstruction. Unlike balloon probes, the guide head dissolves completely after the operation.
